The iPad and iPhones of today are not imitations but inovations from the original. A better example may be Maple Syrup. You can have the real Maple Syrup or the imitation Maple Syrup. I prefer the real Maple syrup.

If you want to look at this example it another way, you have the source material and the copies. If people have to make changes to the source in their copies, then the big question needs to be why.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4385205961037530446.post-29982444855384472282011-02-15T16:53:06.856-05:002011-02-15T16:53:06.856-05:00"They argue that the Salaf (original) is bett..."They argue that the Salaf (original) is better than Takleed (imitation). Isn't having the original of anything better than having the imitation?"

Funny, as soon as I read this, my reaction was: ARE YOU NUTS? I immediately thought of the endless cornucopia of amazing products that we see every hour of every day that originated without exception with a super-hard won, clunky, smoky, rough PROTOTYPE, that was repeatedly refined, tested, and improved until the "imitation" was 100 times better than the original. Like, saaaaaaaayyyy, a COMPUTER? Mygaaawd, today we carry in one hand an IPAD that has ten times as much computing power as the building-size "original computers" of 60 years ago. Or is it a thousand times?

I guess the question is: does the backward-looking "anti-progress" attitude lead to Islam (which self-consciously rejects any reforms), or does Islam lead to the attitude?
